A White Christmas in the Alps, skiing with Santa!

Santa Knows Best: Where to Holiday this Christmas series
Through this series of travel adventures across the winding slopes of Europe – Santa takes us through the magical White Christmas experiences.

We have been on a ride with Santa holding the reins of the ‘one-horse open sleigh’, telling us how best to make merry, this Christmas. It is the choicest of destinations – all handpicked by Santa, for you and your family.
And for his second destination, Santa has a bag full of adventure, skiing through the wondrous slopes of Alps! Ho Ho Ho!

Christmas is a beautiful time of the year, and if you love the mountains as much as Santa does, there is no better way to spend it other than skiing and snowboarding.

With the finest of curves and slopes full of snow, festivities in the air and villages straight from a postcard, here are Santa’s favorite places for a skiing adventures & a perfectly white Christmas! Read on…

Zermatt-Switzerland

• Zermatt, Switzerland:

Sitting at an altitude of 5310 ft, Zermatt is God’s gift to mankind. One the few places on earth which has spectacular view, crisp clear air, zero carbon emission (since ether are no cars allowed), towering iconic Matterhorn and white snow against the oh-so-blue skies! Is it even real, you wonder? But of course, it is! Santa recommends it to the T. There is plenty of action for non-skiers too. Go to the mountains for tobogganing or stay at Zermatt for Ice-skating. There are really charming walking tours as well. Not to mention the gourmet delights – you would feel like a la Audrey Hepburn, sipping the wine from the terrace of a chic restaurant. There are enough people wearing the Prada here. This is not all though, you could actually ski away to Italy for a clandestine date (wink); don’t forget the passport, says Santa.

• Mayrhofen, Austria:

Whether you like some seriously steep slopes; Harakiri pise or gentle tug along downhill bends – Mayrhofen is the ideal place for you and your family. Santa urges you to claim this destination in Tirol; it doesn’t matter if you are a beginner or a pro. Surrounded by majestic mountains of the Zillertal Alps, Mayrhofen derives its name, interestingly, from an episcopal farmland, dating back to 1200 AD. Walking along the lush meadows you would discover that green valley alternates with the craggy rock faces and the glaciers of the Alps. Hiking is another ethereal experience in the Zillertal valley; expect crystal clear mountains, narrow canyons, glaciers, mountains up to 3500m and much more. For the foodie in you, think cheese fondou, home grown farm produce, local meat, fillet and the fresh bakes are to die for. Santa wants you to definitely tick this option.

Chamonix

• Chamonix-Mont-Blanc:

Chamonix-Mont-blanc, is nestled in an area near the junction of France, Switzerland and Italy; an idyllic environment awaits you as history and modern life mingle with a balance, possible only with deep understanding of the heritage, one is part of. Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in Alps towering at 4809 m above the sea level; it literally means ‘White Mountain’ in French. The French town on Chamonix is located at the base of Monty-Blanc. One of the most outstanding skiing destinations, Chamonix, offers a different panorama of Mont-Blanc each day. A must visit, says Santa- because there is nowhere else in the world that you would find a place co-owned by two countries. Yes – France and Italy in this case!

val_d_sere

• Val d’lsere, France:

Val d’lsere is the most picturesque place you will ever see, says Santa. No wonder that it makes to the top list of every traveler who has skiing on their mind. It also has the best of everything – terrain, slopes, view, snowfall and an entire holistic experience – comes with a price, of course. The supremely majestic Alps towers over you as you cover the winding slopes amidst breathtaking setting and a white dreamy Christmas.
The town was developed around a 17th century church, is an amalgamation of traditional Savoyard architecture and modern buildings. The old town is a treat in itself. Santa himself makes a grand entry here amidst cheering children and smiling adults. Go ahead – enjoy the bounty; vin chaud, hot chocolate, live music and colorful parades. It’s an experience of a lifetime, Santa assures you.

finland

• Levi, Finland:

Tucked away 170 km north of the Arctic Circle and Rovaniemi city, Levi, is the largest ski resort in Finland. Levi offers a World Cup style skiing experience combined with glittering Northern lights and hoard of fun activities. Unbelievably serene and unparalleled in unique natural beauty – the Finnish belief of a mythical Firefox which lights up the dark night has had people intrigued for ages, here. Santa promises that the kids would love the kids’ runs and back slopes. Levi boasts the cleanest air in the inhabited world – Santa says, you have to see it to believe it. So, Ice igloos anyone? Because that’s a possibility for your stay, while in Levi.
